Emergency - Paediatric

The Emergency Department Technician works as a member of the clinical team and supports patient care activities in the Emergency Department in conjunction with physicians, nurses and other support staff for both medical and mental health patient populations. The Emergency Department Technician monitors, troubleshoots and provides basic equipment maintenance to specialty equipment in the Emergency Department, orders and stocks supplies, and provides on-going communication to facilitate daily operation of the department.

Regular Part-Time

Hours of work: 22.5 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $29.71 per hour - $31.57 per hour

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of one of the following: Paramedic Diploma from a community college, PSW certificate from a recognized PSW program, Physiotherapist Assistant Diploma or Certificate and Occupational Therapist Assistant Diploma or Certificate, or OTA/PTA Diploma or Certificate
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) to be renewed annually
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of CPR and ability to perform compressions during CPR
  • Ability to complete Management of Aggressive Behaviour training to be renewed annually
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Demonstrated proficient Aseptic/Sterile Technique
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability to change, as well as organize, prioritize and manage time in a rapidly changing environment
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of emergency department equipment and related mechanical skills
  • Ability to problem solve with demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and well developed decision making skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of legislation regarding Mental Health
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated advanced competence with regard to patient safety
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated advanced competence with regard to being patient focused with a service oriented attitude
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
