Position Details The Department of Geography & Environment at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a continuing appointment at the rank of Instructor II or III to commence on July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will be in the range of $59,606 – $75,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We are seeking a broadly trained Geographer with strong spatial analytical skills and experience in the geosciences, including GIS, remote sensing, mapping, and spatial modelling. The successful candidate must have a degree at the Master’s level or higher and be able to teach classes that involve practical and hands-on training in geospatial techniques, current geographical technological-computational skills, lab-based scientific procedures, and physical geography field equipment. The candidate will be expected to instruct courses at a variety of levels including but not limited to: introduction to GIS (lectures and labs); advanced GIS labs (including HTML and JavaScript programming); mapping labs; remote sensing labs; statistics labs; and labs tied to geographical topics and processes. Familiarity with how the geosciences relate to both physical and human geography is required. We are seeking a candidate with the capability to engage and inspire undergraduate and graduate students in their teaching, and who will show initiative in contributing to the department’s programs and curriculum development. The Department of Geography and Environment has an enthusiastic group of faculty members that includes human and physical geographers, environmental scientists, and archaeologists with diverse research programs. Faculty are also actively involved in multidisciplinary majors in Agricultural Studies, Urban and Regional Studies, Indigenous Studies, Environmental Science, Archaeology, Archaeology & Geography, GIS and Computer Science, and Remote Sensing. The department has an established graduate program and a thriving undergraduate student culture, encouraged through faculty involvement.
