Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the International & Global Transaction Banking (IGTB) Team which oversees the promotion and protection of the Scotiabank brand and plays a key role in supporting the overall success of the International and Global Transaction businesses and the Bank’s strategic priorities, leveraging deep business knowledge to effectively support external positioning requirements from business lines leaders and segments. Ensures all communications plans delivered are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
In particular, partners with the business lines and corporate functions in Canada and IGTB markets, as well as with the Corporate Affairs Teams, to support the creation and development of IGTB Business line segments and programs. The Senior Manager oversees the team to provide communications support to IGTB business and Corporate Affairs partners on strategic plans, tactical services, and issues management. He/she also facilitates approvals with stakeholders and keeps day-to-day partnership relationships with them.

Purpose

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will be involved in:
- Drives a client focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Maintaining high levels of client service with the IGTB Communications team and key corporate partners to provide expert advice.
- Providing recommendations and support that adds value across different teams, in order to become essential and trusted partners to leaders and other communications teams across the Bank.
- Supports in aligning communications strategies for Business lines segments across Scotiabank’s global footprint countries (Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, the Caribbean and Europe).
- Facilitating messages and processes that enable consistency across IGTB priority markets.
- Updating policies and tools related to communications implementation in/with IGTB markets; and,
- Providing informed advice and guidance for issues and crisis management.
- Maintaining a thorough understanding of the Bank’s policies and procedures and advising the team on the appropriate processes to be followed in various scenarios.
- Implements strategic communications plans and tactics with a special focus on media relations to support the requirements of the International and Global Transaction Banking teams across Scotiabank’s footprint by:
- Delivering communication plans and tactics to support Business line segments that lead to increased understanding of the Bank’s strategy and priorities;
- Identifying and recommending appropriate communication channels, media outlets and tools to ensure key messages, actions and outcomes are clearly understood by key stakeholders;
- Writing, reviewing and editing communications for a wide variety of materials including press releases, scripts, executives’ remarks, among others,
- Building and executing integrated communications plans
- Developing effective engagement and relationships with internal clients, the public relations agency and international media outlets to ensure delivery of quality, cost effective and timely services across the Bank.
- Prepare flawless communications materials and ensure a high-level of confidentiality of those materials for all Business Lines and Corporate Functions as required by:
- Meeting with teams as required to review the need for internal and external communications
- Ensuring the highest-quality draft materials for review by the business partners;
- Developing sensitive materials with high-level of confidentiality;
- Overseeing translation of materials as required; and,
- Working with partners across the Global Communications team in Canada and the countries, as required, to place communications in the most relevant internal and external distribution networks in all geographies.
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the Global Corporate Affairs team by:
- Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication within the team;
- Actively contributing to one-on-one touchbases and team meetings;
- Encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches;
- Working to establish collaborative efforts across the team; and,
- Developing and executing a meaningful employee development plan.
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills and requirements that will enable you to succeed in this program? – We’d love to work with you if:
- Fluency in Spanish/English (oral and written)
- Degree in Communications, Journalism, Bachelors of Arts and or Economics, International Relations, International Business, Business Administration or equivalent experience. Master's degree or MBA an asset.
- 8- 10 years’ experience in corporate communications, Marketing Communications, Financial Communications and/or Public Relations.
- Proven strategic planning skills and exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and drive audience engagement.
- Knowledge and experience communicating via print, web, visual media and emerging communication platforms.
- Social media with demonstrated experience leveraging the latest communication vehicles to effectively communicate with key audiences.
- Working knowledge of financials and experience in the financial services industry including digital banking an asset.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and relationship management skills.
- Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Due to the nature of the role in supporting the Bank’s executive and the public reputation of the Bank, this position requires the incumbent to work well under pressure and respond quickly to changing priorities and short deadlines. There are extended periods of computer use in preparation of communications. Hours of work exceed standard working hours during peak periods.
