The Clinical Research Assistant I supports the assigned research team under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Responsibilities may include assisting in collecting specimens, arranging for tests/procedures, following up on visits, and ensuring documentation is compiled and well-maintained. Transcribes data into databases; conducts literature reviews; arranges for the collection of specimens as required; and ensures appropriate follow-up with research participants and project team members. Responsible for providing administrative support for other duties as required by the research team. Participates in one or multiple site-specific and/or multi-site research project(s). Follows Research Institute policies, Hospital policies, SOPs, REB requirements, and applicable guidelines when carrying out responsibilities

Rate of Pay: $26.01 - $32.51 Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week Duration: 1 year, renewable
Responsibilities:


Obtaining research information and planning Follow-up visits, tests/procedures

  • Uses consent forms, questionnaires, and interview guides for data gathering according to study requirements
  • Responsible for conducting telephone interviews and/or onsite visits, to collect study participant data, according to timelines and criteria required by the study
  • Schedules study participant visits and follow-up visits according to the study protocol requirements
  • Can include scheduling visits for lab tests or other procedures (MRI, ultrasound, lab, eye, etc.)
  • Ensures follow-up questionnaires are sent, completed and returned
  • Communicates adverse events to PI or Research Coordinator

Specimen Collection, processing, and shipping

  • Manages some assessments, such as patient vitals, questionnaires, and applicable test results, according to project protocols
  • Processes and ships specimens promptly while maintaining the specimen's integrity
  • Investigator Site File maintenance
  • Following good documentation practices ensures documentation from tests/procedures is included in the proper location.
  • Maintains documentation in patient files, such as consent forms, study materials, ethics submissions, questionnaires, Principal Investigator notes, etc.
  • Ensures accuracy of information
  • Reviews the ISF for site monitoring visits

Data entry and query resolution

  • Review patient charts to extract data such as patient history, lab results, medications, visit notes, etc.
  • Transfers and enters data into study-specific database and/or lists.
  • Reviews data to ensure accuracy of information
  • Follows database processes for creating, testing, updating, and ensuring integrity in the information in the database
  • Carries out data cleaning and quality checks to resolve problems with missing or incomplete information
  • Responds to data queries on time and corresponds with study stakeholders for clarifications regarding the data, when needed.

Administrative Support

  • Provides administrative support in scheduling and attending research meetings, recording results of meetings, organizing and maintaining research records
  • Assists in creating posters/PowerPoint presentations for presentations/conferences
  • Assists with maintaining documentation binders of patients and projects
  • Assist with gathering or filing documents, etc., as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education required (4 year Undergraduate Degree)
  • Clinical Trials Management certificate or similar would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 1 year of recent related experience in a similar role, preferably in a research environment or health care setting
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices - ICH GCP and Good Documentation Practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis - In person
  • Ability to follow processes with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills with the ability to set priorities to meet deadlines for multiple projects
