Home of the McMaster Marauders, McMaster University Athletics provides a wide range of sports and recreational activities to students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the greater community with the opportunity to pursue athletic excellence. McMaster’s Athletics department is home to various well-equipped sports facilities, including a comprehensive fitness center, indoor and outdoor sports fields, swimming pools, gymnasiums, tennis courts, and more. Job Summary:
The Assistant Manager of Event Operations & Ticketing is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and enhancement of ticket operations, customer experience, event logistics, and staff management, while driving strategic initiatives to increase revenue and fan engagement.
Accountabilities:
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Develop and implement the annual event calendar for varsity games and departmental special events.
- Lead departmental events to ensure alignment of resources, priorities, and execution across all units.
- Lead and execute themes and fan engagement for varsity games
- Lead the development of policies, procedures, and best practices for customer service and event operations.
- Oversee the planning and execution of all event logistics including venue setup, athlete and official areas, hospitality, and entertainment.
- Coordinate and execute event themes and fan engagement strategies in collaboration with Marketing and Communications.
- Manage videoboard operations including content creation and live execution.
- Schedule and supervise entertainment and external groups for varsity events.
- Manage the ticketing system, including season packages and single-event ticket sales.
- Oversee customer support operations as the primary escalation point for logistics and ticketing, ensuring timely resolution and a high-quality experience.
- Oversee box office operations and game day experience, including hiring, training, and managing ticketing staff.
- Conduct regular analysis of ticketing software and post-event cash reconciliation.
- Lead data-driven strategies using ticket purchase and redemption analytics to inform pricing, promotions, and audience engagement.
- Design and analyze surveys to enhance the game day experience and drive attendance growth.
- Oversee the hiring, training and management of Unifor staff and part-time staff for event operations (e.g., stats, webcast, videoboard, camera ops, announcers, ushers, ticket takers).
- Manage external contracted services such as DJs, webcasting, and minor officials.
- Analyze staffing levels and operational needs to ensure efficient event execution.
- Execute sponsorship activations and ensure fulfillment of contractual obligations.
- Collaborate with partners to integrate promotional elements into events.
- Prepare event documentation including game scripts, training manuals, reports, and promotional materials.
- Deliver training sessions for event staff and volunteers.
- Provide recommendations based on customer feedback to improve facilities, services, and equipment.
- Oversee inventory of athletic and event equipment, ensuring availability and maintenance.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or related field
Experience:
- 5 years of related experience
Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to plan and execute large-scale events
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and committees
- Proven experience with ticketing platforms
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders (fans, sponsors, staff, vendors)
