Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced SMT Manufacturing Engineer to lead and optimize our surface

mount technology operations. The ideal candidate will bring over a decade of hands-on expertise in

high-volume electronics manufacturing, with a deep understanding of SMT processes, equipment, and

quality systems. This role is critical in driving continuous improvement, ensuring process stability, and

supporting new product introductions (NPI).

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Support the company's technology roadmaps and stay current with the latest SMT industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Lead the introduction, development, qualification, and optimization of new products, equipment, processes, and materials in SMT manufacturing.
  • Initiate new equipment evaluation, specification, selection, and qualification (e.g., pick-and- place, reflow ovens, Plasma, AOI, SPI,…etc).
  • Lead new processes evaluation and characterization through a comprehensive Design of Experiments.
  • Drive process improvements using Lean-Six-Sigma, statistical process control (SPC), and best practices known methodologies.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including PFMEAs, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and new product introduction, development, and flawless launch.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) and ISO quality systems.
  • Support audits, customer visits, and technical reviews.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in SMT manufacturing engineering within a high-volume electronics environment.
  • Proven expertise in SMT processes development and troubleshooting (e.g., paste printing, pick and place, automated inspection, wave soldering…etc.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard equipment (e.g., Fuji, ASM, DEK, Vitronics, Koh Young).
  • Strong knowledge of quality tools (DOE, FMEA, 8D, SPC).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001 Certification
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • SMTA Process Engineer Certification
