What You’ll Be Doing:
The Portfolio Utility & Energy Manager will be responsible for managing utility consumption across our property portfolio, which includes water, hydro, and natural gas. This role requires a deep understanding of utility management, the ability to engage and manage utility consultants, expertise in sourcing and applying rebate programs, project development and management to reduce consumption, and proficiency in utility benchmarking and reporting.

The Portfolio Utility & Energy Manager will be a part of the Real Estate & Development group and, as a valued member of the team, will demonstrate a commitment to the business objectives of the organization by providing services in accordance with the organization's vision, mission and values.

Utility Consumption Management

  •  Monitor and analyze utility consumption data for properties within the portfolio.
  •  Identify opportunities for optimizing utility usage and reducing consumption.
  •  Implement strategies to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and natural gas reduction.
  •  Communicate quarterly scorecards and seasonal opportunities for improvements to Building Services team.

Project Development

  •  Develop and execute projects aimed at reducing utility consumption, including energy efficient upgrades, water conservation and natural gas reduction. Report on progress & data benchmarking.
  •  Create business case for executive approvals to meet return on investment.
  •  Create detailed specifications for utility related projects and initiatives
  •  Run RFP processes to select vendors, contractors or consultants for projects
  •  Oversee project implementation and ensure successful outcomes.

Consultant Engagement

  •  Collaborate with utility consultants and specialists to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  •  Manage relationships with external utility experts and consultants.
  •  Assist in developing a ‘Road Map’ for overall utility consumption, cost and carbon reduction plan to meet corporate goals.

Rebate Program Management

  •  Research and identify relevant utility rebate programs and incentives.
  •  Develop a comprehensive understanding of rebate eligibility criteria and application processes in municipalities and provinces which Sienna operates.
  •  Apply for, and manage, rebate programs to maximize cost savings.

Redevelopment Projects

  •  Collaborate with Sienna Real Estate Team and consultants on new development projects to establish min performance specifications for energy and water consuming specifications.
  •  Assist in identifying appropriate site-specific opportunities to reduce energy consumption (solar panels, geothermal heat pumps etc.)

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  •  Collaborate closely with Finance, Building Services, Operations, Third party consultants and other departments for project development, oversight and management.
  •  Ensure alignment of utility management initiatives with the goals and objectives of these departments.

Education & Experience Required:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g. Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business.)
  •  Proven experience in utility management, sustainability or a related role.
  •  Strong knowledge of utility consumption metrics, benchmarking, and sustainability best practices.
  •  Experience working with utility consultants, executing, managing and delivering projects.
  •  Familiarity with utility rebate programs, incentives and applications.
  •  Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  •  Strong communication and presentation abilities
  •  Detail oriented and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
  •  Knowledge of relevant software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Long Term Care and Retirement Living in Ontario
  •  Technical knowledge on HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, building maintenance, and computerized building automation systems is an asset
