Sedgman Canada Ltd is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer (Layout Designer) to join our team in Vancouver, BC. The Senior Mechanical Designer will lead a team of designers on a project, be responsible for preparing and overseeing concept and layout design drawings of mineral processing plants for studies and engineering projects.

The ideal incumbent will have prior experience and knowledge of developing layouts and designs, from scoping study through to detailed engineering. He / She will manage a team of designers on a project and will be responsible for coordinating project drafting work including model development, equipment layout, interdisciplinary reviews, model reviews, and production of detailed drawings for construction.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of experienced designers in large and complex detail design processes, against project scope, budget and schedule.

  • Lead model review meetings, resolve layout issues, and coordinate inputs and actions for the drafting team

  • Develop detailed designs, models, drawings and specifications in accordance with industry standards and project specifications.

  • Prepare PFS and detailed design drawings of plant, equipment, services, or other strictures as directed.

  • Oversee the preparation of design & detail drawings from plans, sketches, or other design specification data, and relevant regulations, codes, and standards.

  • Direct the work of detail and design drafters; ensure the drawings comply with plans to conform to the specifications supplied.

  • Manage and communicate project and quality expectations to maintain consistent design drafting standards across projects and teams.

  • Forecast, control and monitor budget hours and manpower loading against deliverables.

  • Provide input and support to proposal and estimates.

  • Facilitate and ensure interdisciplinary co-ordination when developing layouts or models.

  • Review designs to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes, Canadian / International Standards and Sedgman Standards.

  • Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design

  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system.

  • Understand Sedgman standard specifications, typical/standard drawings, and calculations/simulations to reflect current industry standards.



What are we looking for? Qualifications:

  • Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent

  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant design layout experience in the Mining & Minerals industry

  • Specific experience in a consulting/engineering firm in the design and plant layout of mineral processing is required, including equipment, services and materials handling facilities

  • Strong knowledge of Auto-CAD suite software tools; including Advanced Steel, Plant 3D, Navisworks

  • Experience in the design and layout of mineral processing plants from run of mine ore receipt to final product storage and handling.

  • Understanding and knowledge of typical MMM process areas such as Crushing/Screening, Product Storage and Stockpiling, Material Handling, Milling, Mineral Processing.

  • Ability to ensure that project requirements on scope, time and cost are met.

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Salary Range : $75,000 to $110,000

The salary offered to the successful person for this position will consider education, experience, relevant skills and capability, geographic location and market conditions at the time of hire.
