About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources and Faculty Relations, the HR Project and Analytics Manager plays a pivotal role in leading HR projects and driving evidence-based decision-making through advanced workforce data analytics.
This position combines strategic project management with data-driven insight generation, supporting informed decisions that enhance operational effectiveness across the Faculty. The incumbent will lead and coordinate cross-functional HR initiatives, develop analytical dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide high-quality analysis that supports the Faculty’s strategic and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage HR and Faculty Relations projects that align with Faculty and University strategic priorities.
- Develop project plans, monitor progress, and ensure successful delivery of initiatives.
- Analyze and synthesize complex HR data (e.g., workforce, recruitment, benefits, payroll) to identify trends, forecast needs, and provide actionable insights.
- Build and maintain HR dashboards and scorecards to support workforce planning and strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with FHS Finance and other leaders to ensure alignment of HR and financial strategies and effective resource utilization.
- Support process improvement and change management, applying Lean and continuous improvement methodologies to optimize HR systems and workflows.
- Conduct research and prepare reports, briefing notes, and presentations for senior leadership, ensuring data is translated into meaningful narratives.
- Supervise and coordinate project staff, delegating tasks and ensuring progress toward objectives.
- Ensure data integrity through collaboration with central data teams and adherence to institutional standards.
- Maintain and update the FHS HR/FR website and internal communication tools to ensure transparency and access to current information.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- Project Management certification (PMP or Agile) required or equivalent experience.
- HR designation (CHRP/CHRL) is an asset.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification is an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in HR project management, workforce analytics, or a related area within a complex organization.
- Proven success leading cross-functional projects and managing multiple priorities.
- Advanced proficiency with data analysis tools, particularly Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, dashboards).
- Demonstrated experience using HRIS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) and understanding HR data structures.
- Experience in change management and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
Knowledge and Competencies
- Solid understanding of HR principles, business acumen, and organizational development concepts.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and full project lifecycle execution.
- Knowledge of McMaster University’s governance, systems, and decision-making processes is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment and demonstrating initiative.
- High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to manage ambiguity and change.
