About The Role
The Maintenance Worker helps maintain and improve the Alpine Club of Canada’s huts, lodge, and clubhouse with a focus on building construction and facility upkeep. This role assists with construction projects, carpentry, and structural repairs, while also servicing mechanical systems, waste management and supporting energy-efficient operations.
Work includes routine maintenance of facilities and grounds, operating vehicles and equipment, and ensuring safe practices in both the Canmore clubhouse and remote backcountry locations. Regular travel to hut sites is required, sometimes for multiple days and over weekends. The Maintenance Worker plays a key role in keeping facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for members and guests.

What You'll Do
- Follow safe job procedures for day-to-day operations.
- Travel to remote facilities on foot, by vehicle or aircraft to repair facilities on a scheduled basis. This may include multiday stays & weekends
- Drive vehicles in the fleet and ensure personal compliance with driver's time management program, safety fitness certificate and vehicle registrations, transportation of dangerous goods.
- Execute work order requests as assigned
- Report any mechanical failures or unsafe conditions and promote safety in the workplace.
- Collect and maintain inventory control of maintenance and custodial supplies.
- Assist building custom facility furniture.
- Overall maintenance of the interior and exterior of our hut network and Canmore clubhouse hostel.
- Traveling to backcountry facilities as required for inspections and other operation's needs.
- Assist with our waste management operations (collection, barrel removal, equipment inspections and repairs)
- Service mechanical systems (furnaces, pumps, etc.)
- Ensure good staff relations are maintained and provide effective public relations with members, guests and outside agencies.
- Follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including aspects such as; working at height, working alone, working in remote locations, Transportation of dangerous goods, working with aircraft.
- Be aware of and follow emergency response procedures for both urban and remote locations, including all practice drills.
- Be accountable for the delivery of a safe work environment to ensure and protect the health and safety of those who use and deliver programs.
- Performing grounds maintenance, repairs and improvements for properties owned or operated by the ACC. Duties include operating hand tools and small electric or gas-powered tools, planting, trimming, and edging, raking leaves, brush removal, chipping and removing trash and debris
- Performing routine building maintenance and janitorial duties for ACC facilities including; sanding, painting, staining, light construction under supervision of Maintenance Supervisor
- Operating hand tools, power tools, small to medium sized equipment including Tractor, John Deere Gator and related implements in a safe and responsible manner
- Driving trucks and equipment of various sizes up to 1 ton, in the loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, material, outhouse barrels, propane and other materials
- Inspecting and performing preventative maintenance and repairs as needed;
- Completing the daily, weekly and monthly tasks checklists according to department specifications and guidelines
- Carry out other duties as assigned
- Previous employment in an outdoor recreation setting
- Ability to work in remote/backcountry locations, including overnight stays.
- Valid driver’s license; experience with fleet vehicles, equipment, and TDG requirements.
- Skilled in facility, grounds, and mechanical system maintenance.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and small-to-medium equipment.
- Basic carpentry and construction support experience.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills with staff and guests.
- Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor and manual work.
- Reliable, organized, and able to work independently or under supervision.
- Experienced in helicopter long lining considered an asset
- Knowledge of safe work practices and OH&S compliance.
