Why we have this role:
The Vice President, Finance is a key member of the Leadership Team, responsible for leading the Finance function across the GVF group of companies and aligning financial strategy with organizational goals.
This role oversees financial planning and corporate finance activities across multiple divisions including Grand Valley Fortifiers, Farmers Depot, Direct Source Commodities, True Foods, Valley Feeds, Kindred Farmers, and On-Farm Business Intelligence, with dotted-line oversight of Fortified Nutrition and Valley Nutrition.
Beyond technical excellence, this position is about partnership and impact. The VP, Finance works closely with leaders across the business to modernize processes, strengthen systems, and foster a culture of accountability through transparent, real-time metrics and financial insights.

What you’ll do:
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead the Accounting and Finance team, driving operational and strategic excellence across the company and it’s processes.
- Inspire, coach, and develop team members to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
- Partner closely with leaders across all functions, emphasizing collaboration, communication, and alignment.
- Provide executive-level guidance for major transformational initiatives, including a group-wide ERP implementation.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while modeling integrity and professionalism.
- Uphold GVF’s long-standing reputation for honesty and integrity in all business dealings.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Partner with the President, Leadership Team, and key stakeholders to drive financial accountability and data-driven decision making.
- Deliver clear, fact-based analysis and insights to guide strategic, organizational, and financial decisions.
- Monitor and report on financial performance to the Board of Advisors and leadership.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation processes to support sustainable growth.
- Balance short-term financial performance with long-term strategic vision.
Continuous Improvement & Business Development
- Lead financial analysis of business opportunities, risks, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Support business development and M&A activities, including due diligence, integration, and stakeholder relations.
- Lead cross-functional financial and operational projects to improve efficiency and unlock value across the organization.
Accounting, Controls & Risk Management
- Partner with Controllers to build a scalable financial control environment through strong policies and internal controls.
- Oversee cash flow, working capital, and financial resilience through accurate forecasting and planning.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, insurers, and government agencies.
- Provide leadership in risk management, contract review, and financial dispute resolution.
Systems & Processes
- Lead implementation of key financial and operational systems, including ERP and other IT transformation initiatives.
- Drive digitization, automation, and process excellence to enhance efficiency and customer centricity.
- Implement governance processes such as CAPEX reviews, project approvals, and headcount management to support disciplined growth.
Your background includes:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA considered an asset.
- CPA designation required.
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally in a complex, high-growth or multi-entity organization.
- Experience in agribusiness or food production considered an asset.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and deliver measurable business improvements.
- Experience leading ERP implementations or large-scale digital transformations.
- Track record of supporting growth from ~$200M to $300M+ in revenue within 3–5 years.
- Strong M&A and integration experience.
- Sound knowledge of IFRS and ASPE.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic mindset paired with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach.
