Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a part-time continuous Counsellor position commencing as soon as possible. Salary will be in accordance with the CUPE Instructor Scale: (range: $2,887.92 - $4,627.75 biweekly) plus a comprehensive benefit plan.

Duties: The Student Wellness Counsellor (SWC) enhances student health and wellness by providing short-term counselling and crisis support for students referred by the Director of Student Health Services, coordinating referrals to community resources for long-term or ongoing care, and developing initiatives that promote student mental health and success.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver counselling through in-person appointments and/or technology (video, email, telephone).
  • Apply culturally responsive and inclusive approaches that recognize and respect the diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences of students.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, events, group sessions, and wellness initiatives on a wide range of topics that promote resilience, wellness, and student success.
  • Participate in orientation activities and other events to enhance student wellbeing and awareness of services.
  • Contribute to annual wellness campaigns and College-wide initiatives (e.g. Beyond the Blues, Bell Let’s Talk Day) in collaboration with Student Engagement and other departments.
  • Refer students to appropriate community services or other College departments (e.g. Student Health Services, Financial Aid, Accessibility Services, Housing, community counsellors) when needs extend beyond short-term counselling.
  • Act as a resource on student mental health and wellness across all CMTN campuses.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential counselling records and provide statistical reports as required.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and attend relevant conferences to ensure services align with provincial and national best practices.
  • Embed equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility principles into all aspects of counselling and wellness programming.
  • Incorporate the Mission and Values of CMTN into all aspects of service delivery.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in counselling psychology or a related field (e.g., Educational Psychology, Social Work with a clinical focus) from an accredited university, with supervised practicum/clinical experience at the graduate level. Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC), Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC), BC College of Social Workers (RSW, with clinical counselling scope), or College of Psychologists of BC (R.Psych.).

Required attributes/experience includes:

  • Minimum of three years of relevant counselling or clinical practice experience; experience in a post-secondary environment is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with short-term and single-session therapy approaches and crisis counselling skills.
  • Understanding of college and community-based supports, including cultural and traditional healing resources relevant to post-secondary students.
  • Ability to foster trust, maintain confidentiality, and navigate professional boundaries in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience working with diverse culture.
  • Experience providing counselling through multiple modalities (in-person, phone, and virtual)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Strong team-oriented, organizational and problem-solving skills
