Position Summary :
Reporting to the Director, Digital Practice & Chief Clinical Informatics Officer, the Manager, Digital Practice & Learning and Transformation supports digital practice excellence by leading the build and implementation of the Health Information System (HIS). Acting as a key change agent across clinical, service, and administrative departments, the manager works to develop and enhance a common system through effective stakeholder engagement, end-user education, and ongoing evaluation to ensure benefits realization and sustained adoption.
The Manager, Digital Practice & Learning and Transformation, leverages strong leadership skills to influence stakeholders and work across programs to translate clinical and business requirements into effective technical solutions that promote best practices and quality patient care. Drawing on expert knowledge of clinical, service, and departmental operations, the role advocates for inter-professional and interdepartmental practice needs, decision support tools, and high data quality. The manager plays an active role in future state design, system build, change management, and the successful implementation of technology that transforms workflows, enhances adoption, improves user proficiency, and ensures sustained utilization to achieve benefits realization. To enable this work, the manager leads the Professional Practice – Digital & Clinical Transformation and Digital Learning Team, overseeing the Oracle Cerner education curriculum and providing coaching to support knowledge transfer, skill development, and competency assessment. The position is also responsible for corporate initiatives such as HIS orientation, product implementation, and software upgrades, as well as supporting department-level change initiatives.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Managing Professional Practice- Digital & Clinical Transformation and Digital Learning Team
- Developing, implementing and managing short/long-term goals for the team, in response to the organizational digital practice and digital learning needs that align with organizational goals and strategies;
- Managing human and financial resources.
- In collaboration with stakeholders, planning, organizing, evaluating and delivering orientation and continuing education related to the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Provide oversight to the Digital Learning Team, including the creation and design of corporate and departmental curriculum and learning assets to support change
- Monitoring and evaluating adoption of the EHR into clinical practice and establish recommendations and plans for improvement and/or achievement of digital excellence;
- Work across departments and within teams to facilitate continual improvements in the EHR, gain consensus, navigate barriers and align practices where applicable
- Collaborate with organizational stakeholders such directors/managers, CMIO, informatics, physicians , EPLs/ Clinical Educators , PPLs, TSSO, Oracle to assist with prioritization and implementation of digital change requests
- Collaborate with front line staff to review critical workflows and advise CPIO, CCIO, informatics leadership to ensure workflow designs align with patient safety initiatives (i.e. Accreditation standards, organizational quality improvement plan)
- Provide a leadership role in identifying and improving system efficiency opportunities through collaboration with frontline staff, informatics, CPOE, and education and practice leaders. This includes the creation, facilitation and coordination of working groups, including the planning and evaluation of working group success indicators
- Supporting and leading corporate wide digital practice change as required
- Participating in corporate committees as required
- Build and maintain relationships with external organizations to share information, practices, and expertise
- Maintaining flexibility when managing multiple roles and responsibilities
- Acting as a mentor and role model for clinical educators, advance practice nurses, and other professional staff.
- Developing a system to validate learning, and ensure that practice changes are measured, sustained and improve outcomes
- Providing appropriate performance management
- Working collaboratively with clinical programs and other discipline leaders to facilitate the integration of professional standards and promote professional practice
Position Requirements:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Graduate degree in related field required
- Experience with Oracle Cerner Millennium required
- Experience in the development of policies, procedures and knowledge transfer is an asset.
- Minimum of three years clinical leadership experience (full time equivalent).
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and effective problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload.
- Strong interpersonal and strong listening skills
- Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to understand customer needs is a critical success factor
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement processes, adult learning principles and change management
- Excellent communication skills and ability to establish positive partnerships
- Working knowledge of health care legislation required.
- Highly motivated, self-directed with demonstrated ability to provide leadership within a team in complex adaptive systems.
- Demonstrated skills in the use of research in the practice setting, clinical education, planning, consultation and facilitation.
- Demonstrated excellent presentation, project management and organizational skills required.
- Excellent computer literacy skills and knowledge of M.S. Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to travel between multiple sites as needed.
