The Office of the Vice-President (Research & Graduate Studies) seeks an engaged, motivated, and organized Research Compliance & Policy Officer (RCPO) to join our team for a three (3) year term with the potential to become a permanent, full-time position.
About the Office
The Office of Research & Graduate Studies assists faculty and students with grant, contract, and scholarship opportunities; ensures institutional and external compliance; and develops policies and procedures. The Vice-President (Research & Graduate Studies) oversees research and graduate studies at Brandon University and guides the strategies, programs, and services that support these essential areas. As a member of the University’s senior leadership team, the Vice-President works closely with the Deans’ Council in supporting the growth of research and graduate programming. The Office of the Vice-President and the University as a whole, values equity, diversity, and inclusion and works towards its consideration and implementation in all aspects of the work undertaken.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and overseeing research compliance and security policies and procedures; ensuring research activities comply with Tri-Agency and other regulatory requirements; conducting internal audits, compliance reviews, and security risk assessments; supporting regulatory committees and preparing documentation for submissions; and updating policies based on evolving regulations and best practices. The role involves providing training and education on research compliance, ethical standards, data protection, and cybersecurity, while promoting a research security-conscious culture. Additional duties include investigating non-compliance, misconduct, and security breaches; developing incident response plans; and collaborating with ethics committees. The position also supports institutional policy development, working with clients to ensure efficient compliance operations, and liaising with government agencies, funding bodies, and other units on research security matters. Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a 3-or-4-year University degree; a minimum of at least three (3) years of experience in research compliance, regulatory affairs, or research administration. A postgraduate degree, diploma, or certificate in a related field would be considered an asset. Experience within a post-secondary environment is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of policy development and implementation, excellent written and oral communication skills and strong attention to detail. They must be able to work independently in a complex environment, take initiative when necessary and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines. The role requires an individual who is self-motivated and responsible, with a mature attitude and professional demeanor, who consistently exercises sound judgment, initiative, tact, diplomacy and discretion. Candidates should be receptive to direction and constructive feedback; and a desire for professional growth by participating in conferences, workshops and other development opportunities to enhance performance. Additionally, excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex data; knowledge of open access, open science, inclusive and responsible research assessment practices; and a high degree of enthusiasm and customer service orientation are preferrable qualifications.
