YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE

We Are Looking For a Microbiology Lab Technician In 6660 Campobello Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 2L9 CAN. Your Mission Will Be To

  • Maintaining the equipment files for the media preparation room and the records (service reports, calibration records, etc.) are filed in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that all the required information for the preparation via Autoclave or Masterclave for each batch of reagent and/or media is recorded on the designated Reagent Preparation sheet.
  • Participating actively in the daily operation in media preparation room.
  • Receiving and labelling materials in use properly in the media preparation room and following the FIFO rules when putting away and using materials and media.
  • Preparing media and reagents by following the instructions as reflected in pertaining RF and procedure and in the volumes indicated by the Analyst 2 and Team Lead.
  • Adhering to the companies policy for health and safety.
  • Reporting of the accidents and incidents to the Team Lead, Lab Supervisor immediately.
  • Strictly following Biosafety Biosecurity guidelines as reflected in CAM WI-00740 in the media preparation area.
  • Communicating the equipment malfunctions and break downs to the Team Lead and the Lab Supervisor.
  • Participating actively in the tainting provided in media preparation room.
  • Helping to train new staff in the operation of equipment and preparation of media as needed.
  • Keeping the personal training profile up to the date.
  • Other tasks as indicated by the Lab Supervisor.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Good computer skills e.g. MS Excel, MS Outlook, LIMS.
  • Energetic personality that can work independently in a multi-tasking fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs

Profile : Associates degree or equivalent work experience and 1+ year relevant work; or, Bachelor’s degree required. The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.

Required skills: Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples.

Work Environment : The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of colors.

Compensation: $19.00 CAD per hour
