Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll be a key member of a collaborative team, driving creative solutions for clients and stakeholders alike. You'll specifically support a large institutional project, focusing on its mechanical and electrical components. Your role will be to support the seamless integration and successful execution of all M&E systems from planning to the execution of the mechanical and electrical scope

Roles & Responsibilities.

  • Lead coordination between mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), fire protection, and low-voltage systems.
  • Review and integrate consultants’ and subcontractors’ shop drawings and models (Revit/BIM) to ensure clash-free design.
  • Manage M&E coordination meetings, ensuring accurate documentation, issue tracking, and timely resolution.
  • Develop and maintain an M&E coordination schedule aligned with the master construction schedule.
  • Coordinate with site superintendent and trades to sequence work effectively, ensuring M&E installations do not impede critical path activities.
  • Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals for compliance with healthcare facility standards (CSA, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA Z317.1, etc.).
  • Verify that equipment selections and installation methods meet project requirements and performance criteria.
  • Oversee inspection and testing of M&E systems — including pressure tests, commissioning, balancing, and system start-up.
  • Ensure all M&E installations meet infection control, vibration, noise, and redundancy standards required for healthcare facilities.
  • Support commissioning agents and consultants in systems verification and functional performance testing.
  • Manage submittal logs for M&E equipment and materials, ensuring timely review and approval.
  • Coordinate RFI generation and responses for all M&E-related issues.
  • Maintain as-built documentation and redline drawings for accurate record turnover.
  • Track equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and shop drawing approvals to mitigate delays.
  • Monitor M&E subcontractors’ on-site progress and compliance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct field inspections and verify proper installation, routing, and labeling of all services.
  • Resolve site-level M&E conflicts through coordination with field teams, consultants, and designers.
  • Support the implementation of BIM-based field layout and verification tools.
  • Coordinate pre-functional, functional, and integrated system testing with commissioning agents.
  • Ensure all mechanical and electrical systems are properly documented, tested, and commissioned.
  • Assist in developing operation and maintenance manuals and training sessions for facility management staff.
  • Support deficiency tracking and resolution prior to substantial completion.
  • Ensure all M&E work complies with healthcare-specific infection prevention and control measures (ICRA).
  • Support enforcement of CSA Z317.13 construction requirements within active healthcare environments.
  • Review M&E method statements and risk assessments for high-risk works (e.g., shutdowns, tie-ins).
  • Coordinate system shutdowns and changeovers with facility operations teams to minimize service interruptions.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the construction management team, design consultants, and M&E subcontractors.
  • Participate in OAC and technical coordination meetings to report progress, issues, and required decisions.
  • Provide technical input to project management regarding schedule impacts, design changes, and cost implications.
  • Support value engineering exercises to optimize system efficiency and lifecycle cost.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Building Systems Technology.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in M&E coordination on large institutional or healthcare projects.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare infrastructure systems (medical gases, nurse call, HVAC zoning, redundancy systems, etc.).
  • Familiar with Revit/BIM coordination workflows and clash detection tools (Navisworks, BIM 360).
  • Understanding of commissioning processes and documentation requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
