Job Summary
Directly Operated Child Care Services is responsible for planning and managing the delivery and operations of Child Care programs and services delivered to the community through the Municipal Child Care Centres.
You are responsible for implementing a comprehensive program of developmentally appropriate activities that encourages optimal growth and development in children. You are also responsible for the continual supervision of children in the assigned age group and ensuring a healthy and safe environment, in accordance with the Early Years Act, 2014.
Education And Experience
Completion of 2 year diploma in Early Childhood Education or an equivalency certificate provided by the Association for Early Childhood Education of Ontario (AECEO)
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in a licensed group setting
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) current with the College of Early Childhood Educators
Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates

- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs for children in a group setting
- Effectively supervise children during their daily routines
- Recognize and support the specific needs of individual children
- Effectively use the principles of early childhood education
- Demonstrates tact, discretion, and good judgment
- Communicates effectively with parents, staff, and children
- Adaptable to changing demands
- Demonstrates initiative and creativity

- Demonstrates collaboration skills as well as leadership in decision making
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.
- Driver’s License Requirement:
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
