Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

This position works in Roads & Drainage. This is skilled form-setting and concrete finishing work on a variety of construction and maintenance projects. An employee of this class is responsible for building and setting forms in accordance with line and grade and pouring, tamping and finishing concrete surfaces. An employee in this class inspects, oversees, and approves contractor work in accordance with established standards. This position also includes conducting city sidewalk inspections as part of the annual inspection program. Oral and/or written assignments are received from a supervisor who reviews the overall performance for workmanship and attainment of desired objectives. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by considerable related experience in concrete construction including some leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in form setting and concrete finishing for sidewalks, driveways, letdowns, curb and gutter, pavements, retaining walls, manholes, catch basins and related projects. Considerable knowledge of concrete mixtures as applied to varying work and weather conditions. Sound knowledge of the standard specifications pertaining to concrete construction work for Municipal projects. Ability to inspect the work of contractors, provide guidance and approve same in accordance with established standards. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5 with Air Brake Endorsement is required.
