The Technologist Assistant (TA) in Ultrasound provides both clinical and non-clinical support to the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) team. Under the guidance of the Sonographer, Radiologist, and DI Manager, the TA contributes to efficient workflow, supports patient care, and ensures safe and organized operations within the Ultrasound department. The TA is accountable for assisting with patient preparation, procedural support, and departmental logistics, while maintaining patient safety, confidentiality, and high-quality care.

Duties And Responsibilities

The TA supports Ultrasound Technologists in performing diagnostic procedures by:

" Preparing patients for exams, including answering questions, reviewing patient history/screening with technologist present in the room, and assisting with patient positioning on imaging tables.

" Assisting with patient transfers from stretcher/wheelchair to the Ultrasound table, ensuring safety and comfort.

" Assisting with sterile and non-sterile procedures, including biopsy preparation and post-procedure cleanup.

" Ensuring patients have reviewed pre-procedure instructions and are ready to provide consent.

" Monitoring patients during and after procedures, notifying the Technologist/Radiologist of any concerns.

" Handling Ultrasound equipment within the scope of competency, including transducer preparation and positioning support.

The TA Contributes To Departmental Efficiency By

" Preparing and maintaining procedure rooms, ensuring necessary supplies, linens, and biopsy trays are available.

" Restocking supplies and performing inventory checks as required.

" Coordinating patient flow, including scheduling in collaboration with in-patient units, Emergency Department, and Technologists when appropriate.

" Verifying patient information, supporting positive patient identification, and assisting with documentation in PACS and EPIC.

" Communicating effectively with clinical teams, porters, nurses, and physicians regarding patient preparation and scheduling.

" Answering department phone lines and providing appropriate support and information when necessary.

" Supporting quality assurance by ensuring all equipment and rooms are clean, organized, and ready for use.

" Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital privacy policies.

" Adhere to all departmental and organizational safety policies, including radiation safety, infection control, and patient handling protocols. Adhering to the Lab specimen policy.

" Exercise sound judgment within the scope of training and competency.

" Demonstrate initiative and proactive teamwork to support Technologists and overall departmental workflow.

" Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain competency in departmental procedures and policies.

Qualifications

" Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and Ultrasound procedural workflow.

" Previous patient care experience, including handling, mobility support, and procedural assistance.

" Familiarity with ALARA principles, sterile technique, and safety procedures.

" Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

" Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
