Job Description
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Detail Design you will assist the Detail Design team on the Polar Icebreaker project at Seaspan Shipyards! Under the direction of the Detail Design Project Manager and Production Drawing Coordinator, the Intern will work on all aspects of detail design project management including production drawings, progress reporting, budgets, quality, change management, and process improvement.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Capilano Business Park 1, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do
- Support tracking of production drawings schedule, progress reporting, budgets, and quality .
- Coordinate meetings, record minutes, and follow up on action items.
- Coordinate between 3D modelling team and drawing team on change management.
- Coordinate with adjacent teams and departments to ensure work is seamlessly integrated and performs properly at every stage in the design and build.
- Help identify risks to drawing delivery dates and track issues to resolution.
- Collaborate with multiple drawings teams worldwide to remove roadblocks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project processes.
- Enrolled in an 2nd or 3rd year Engineering degree program. Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing project management concepts within a production environment. Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
- Proficiency working with Microsoft software suite including Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time optimally.
