Intermediate Substation Engineer - Protection & Control

About Us

Maskwa High Voltage (MHV) is an engineering consulting firm with offices in Calgary and Regina that provides design and engineering services to the electric power delivery industry. Our expertise includes all aspects of Transmission, Substation and Distribution systems for voltages ranging from 4160V to 500kV.

Opportunity

MHV is currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our team in Calgary to support the substation P&C design group. We offer a dynamic work environment with a highly experienced technical team, where you will be offered guidance and hands on training and continuously challenged in all aspects of the engineering and design process.

Responsibilities

  • Protection and control design including logic, schematic, wiring diagrams for utility and renewable substations.
  • Develop control building layout, P&C one line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram,
  • Create bill of materials, cable schedules, point assignments
  • Work closely with other disciplines and coordination design between disciplines (SCADA, Telecom and layout)
  • Act as Design lead on projects with guidance from Principal engineer
  • Prepare estimates, material take offs, scopes of work, and design packages.
  • Prepare Engineering reports.
  • Review designs against applicable industry codes and standards as well as internal MHV standards.
  • Ensure communications take place between Design, Construction, and Testing & Commissioning.
  • Actively promote Safety in Design.
  • Possibility of travel to provide technical support during construction

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in protection & control design of high voltage facilities.
  • Minimum 6 years’ work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a wide spectrum of clients.
  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Ability to perform drafting in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is an asset
  • Registered as an active member with APEGA

Preferred

  • 4–6 years' experience working in utility substations
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
