The Social Media Coordinator plays a key role in shaping the digital presence of the Mawji Centre and supporting the JR Shaw School of Business by developing and executing social media strategies that engage students, showcase entrepreneurial programming, and recognize sponsors and partners. Reporting directly to the Manager of the Mawji Centre, and working closely with Centre staff, this role creates and manages content across multiple platforms, photographs and documents events, and produces the monthly newsletter distributed to more than 3,000 readers. The position also mentors and leads student volunteers contributing to social media efforts, ensuring consistency with NAIT brand standards and policies. A hybrid role, the Social Media Coordinator combines independent, creative work with collaboration on campus, and requires flexibility to occasionally work evenings to cover events, activities, and student initiatives. This position directly contributes to building awareness, enhancing student engagement, and strengthening community and sponsor relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute social media strategies across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, TikTok) to engage students and strengthen the Mawji Centre and JR Shaw School of Business online presence.
- Create engaging content including posts, graphics, photos, and videos that highlight student successes, programs, and sponsor recognition.
- Plan and maintain content calendars to ensure consistent and timely messaging.
- Manage and distribute the monthly e-newsletter to over 3,000 readers.
- Photograph and capture video at events, editing and publishing content for digital channels.
- Lead, mentor, and support student volunteers contributing to social media efforts.
- Monitor analytics and engagement data to evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with the Mawji Centre Manager and staff to promote programs, events, and initiatives.
- Ensure all content aligns with NAIT brand standards, social media policies, and privacy regulations.
- Provide occasional evening support to cover events and activities.
Skills & Abilities:
- Creativity in developing engaging digital content that reflects the Mawji Centre brand.
- Graphic design, photography, and video editing for social media, newsletters, and event promotion.
- Ability to research and adapt to evolving social media trends, algorithms, and digital marketing techniques.
- Experience creating and managing content calendars and campaign strategies.
- Skilled in writing and tailoring messaging for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.
- Strong knowledge of major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Snapchat, X).
- Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Sprout Social, and Campaigner (or similar applications).
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to analyze engagement data and adjust strategies to optimize results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to tone and brand voice.
- Experience leading and mentoring student volunteers or peers in social media support.
- Knowledge of sponsor recognition practices and effective ways to highlight partnerships.
- Ability to photograph events and post directly using an iPhone in real time.
Qualifications:
- Completion of grade twelve
- Post-secondary certificate or diploma in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field
- Proven experience managing social media platforms and creating digital content (portfolio required).
- Strong skills in photography, video editing, and graphic design.
- Ability to photograph and post in real time using an iPhone.
- Proficiency with digital tools such as Canva, Sprout Social, and Campaigner (or similar applications).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities in a part-time role.
- Experience mentoring or leading volunteers or peers in content creation and social media support is an asset.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations (FOIP, CASL) and institutional brand standards related to digital communications.
- Flexibility to work in a hybrid environment with occasional evening availability for events.

Remuneration: $25.60 - $33.13 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of stat holidays and vacation accrual. (Classification – Administrative Support V).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
