About This Role

As an Associate Chef at Valley View Funeral Home & Cemetery located in Surrey, British Columbia, you will play a crucial role in providing meaningful support to families by ensuring that the culinary needs for various events and services are met with excellence.

Reporting to the Funeral Home Manager, you will be responsible for the overall operation of Valley View’s kitchen, consistently producing quality products for the families served. You will oversee food preparation and presentation, ensuring standards are upheld and meals are prepared according to specific menus and daily function notices.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Key Qualifications And Demonstrated Abilities

  • Graduate of a recognized culinary education program.
  • Real Seal certificate is an asset.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a catering environment.
  • Certified in Food Safe levels 1 and 2 and sanitation knowledge.
  • Smart Service designation is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, written and presentation.
  • Demonstrates strong customer service skills with the ability to partner will all levels of the organization.
  • Exemplifies Arbor’s values of integrity, trust, teamwork, belonging and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently produce high-quality food products for the families served, ensuring all food preparation and presentation standards are upheld.
  • Assist in developing budget guidelines for food costs, wastage, and expenses.
  • Develop and implement menus, and provide training for employees.
  • Ensure a safe and injury-free workplace by enforcing compliant sanitation and health and safety practices.
  • Identify training needs, provide appropriate training, and follow up in consultation with general management.
  • Coordinate schedules and supervise all kitchen production activities.
  • Conduct checks on all kitchen food products to ensure standards are being met.
  • Maintain good housekeeping procedures in food preparation and storage areas.
  • Oversee purchasing, storage, quality control, and handling of food products.
  • Monitor inventories to ensure proper storage and rotation of food.
  • Coordinate food cost control measures to maximize food usage and labor efficiency.
  • Supervise and train staff in food production areas.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
