Under the general supervision of the Safety Officer, the Safety Technician II provides technical assistance to line management/supervision in the areas of safety training, safety inspections, and minor accident investigation.


As the
Safety Technician II you will:

  • Conduct education and training on all aspects of safety, safe work procedures and safety requirements.
  • Perform work-site inspections identifying to line management/supervision unsafe actions of people, potential risk situations and deviations from established safe work practices to ensure the city provides safe work environments and facilities.
  • Performs accident investigation, prepares and completes required paperwork, forms and reports.
  • Coordinates and supervises the work of subordinates and subordinate groups as required by the position.
  • Conducts complex statistical analysis and maintain records.
  • Performs and interprets environmental monitoring of the workplace.
  • Performs research to assist in the resolution of Occupational Safety and Health concerns.
  • Prepares a variety of detailed and complex reports.
  • Assumes specific duties as Acting Safety Officer in the Safety Officer’s absence.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Develop and maintain SWP, LOTO, machine guarding, site specific risk assessments etc. documents


Your education and qualifications include:

  • High School grade 12 or equivalent training and experience
  • Completion of a Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (minimum 8 credits) or equivalent.
  • Three years’ experience performing safety inspections and safety training in a related safety and health function.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Health principles and practices.
  • Ability to present Safety and Health training programs.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates and subordinate groups as required by the position.
  • Ability to use a variety of Safety and Health testing equipment and a personal computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Conditions of employment:

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing
