POSITION TITLE: Wellness Specialist

LOCATION: Brockville Board Office, 225 Central Avenue West, Brockville, Ontario.

REPORTS TO: Manager of Human Resources

START: To Be Determined

FTE: 1.0 (35 hours per week)

SALARY: $72,561-$107,564*, commensurate with experience.

  • This job is currently under review which includes salary band determination which is why such a variance in possible starting salary is being advertised.

JOB SUMMARY

The Wellness Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of the Board’s wellness initiatives and programming, including the development and execution of researched wellness strategies based on best practices. This responsibility includes managing the Board’s Attendance Support Program as well as other programs and initiatives to support the employee experience with UCDSB.

Brief Description of Specific Duties

  • Research, analyze, develop and evaluate programs/materials to administer wellness initiatives as per the Board’s strategic plan, including coordinating wellness committee, evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of programming and preparing documents/applications/presentations.

  • Coordinate, planning, communication and meetings for employees who are in the Attendance Support Program. This involves supporting Principals and Managers through the process as well as employees and working with our union partners.

  • Monitors absence trends through our HRIS and works with the Manager of Human Resources and the Specialist team to recommend programs and process improvements.

  • Coordinates and monitors for the Board’s tracking training platform.

  • Monitor the long-term disability contract and facilitate reporting as required.

  • Coordinates the Employee and Family Assistance Program and is the key contact with the provider and the Board when there is crisis intervention required.

  • Policies and best practices including researching best practices of other boards and organizational leaders.

General and Specific Knowledge

  • Wellness and related policies, procedures, trends and developments.

  • Attendance support programs

  • Legislation related to attendance support including the Human Rights Code, Case Law and the Employment Standards Act.

  • General human resources practices.

  • Experience using an HRIS system is an asset.

Formal education and/or certification

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field, such as Human Resource Management, Health Science and/or an equivalent level of education/training

Years of Experience

  • Minimum: 4 to 5 years

Interpersonal skills

  • Communications occur on a daily basis with employees, managers and union representatives and on a weekly or monthly basis with suppliers/contractors, sales representatives, internal corporate executives, professional associations/advisors.
  • A range of interpersonal skills are used to coach managers on systems, collaborate regarding wellness initiatives, counsel employees on wellness services, listen to inquiries and requests, facilitate meetings regarding wellness programs, and present at meetings/committees.

RESPONSIBILITY

Accountability and Decision-Making

  • Incumbents generally have authority to provide guidance to employees, advice to managers regarding programs and job descriptions, recommendations to wellness steering committee/board regarding programs and policies related to wellness.
  • Requires formal approval for changes in direction of wellness programming and budgetary items after approval from Human Resources Manager.

Impact

Generally, has impact within work area, department and across the organization. Additionally, may impact wellness programs. The most significant impacts are on employees and management, because of impacts of the programs (e.g. attendance support program).

Development and leadership of others

  • Not directly responsible for supervision of staff.
  • May be required to provide guidance to other employees, lead a project team and delegate/allocate tasks.
