How you’ll make a difference:


The Board Administrative Officer serves as a strategic connector between the organization’s executive leadership and its Board of Directors. This role ensures seamless communication, alignment of priorities, and informed decision making by facilitating the flow of information, preparing high-quality materials and supporting effective governance processes.

The Board Administrative Officer plays a key role in promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the relationship between the Board and the organization’s leadership.


Your responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Board Chair and WCB’s executive, schedule and coordinate board and committee meetings, board retreats and special sessions.
  • Prepare and distribute agendas, minutes, reports and briefing materials in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Facilitate the timely distribution of information, reports and presentations for the Board of Directors’ meetings.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for board members and ensure they have access to all relevant information prior to meetings.
  • Monitor and coordinate updates to governance frameworks, policies, and procedures, ensuring governance documents (e.g., codes of conduct, conflict of interest policies, board effectiveness tools) are current and accessible.
  • Monitor compliance with board policies related to governance.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory frameworks and assess their impact on board governance and organizational strategy.
  • Research emerging trends and developments in board governance, including director competencies, board evaluations, and risk oversight, to support effective governance practices.
  • Benchmark WCB-Alberta’s governance practices against other public-sector organizations and compensation boards.
  • Assist in the onboarding and orientation of new board members.
  • Serve as a liaison between the board and executive leadership to facilitate open and effective communication.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on board decisions, action items and requests.
  • Coordinate board evaluations and feedback processes.


Your experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or a related discipline.
  • A strong understanding of board governance frameworks, including fiduciary duties, policy oversight and committee structures.
  • Extensive and progressively responsible experience in senior administrative or executive support roles within a corporate governance, policy or legislative environment.
  • Familiarity with the WCB-Alberta’s operations and related legislation is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of governance practices, meeting protocols and the roles and relationships between boards and executive leadership.
  • Prior experience supporting boards or committees would be an asset.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly with executive and board members, with attention to accuracy and clarity.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills; able to anticipate needs and manage risk effectively.
  • Skills in project coordination and time management, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and board governance tools.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion and integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and a strong understanding of organizational dynamics.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to take initiative and work independently.

Salary: $83,185.00 to $97,826.00 per annum (Salary Grade 11)


Successful candidate must reside in Alberta and be able to work in person from our Edmonton downtown office as required. Final candidates are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment.
