We are seeking Family Support Workers in Red Deer, Alberta to join our Family Preservation Program. In this role, you’ll walk alongside parents in their home environment, providing coaching, role-modelling, and practical support to build their skills and confidence as parents. The focus is on helping parents safely parent their children, strengthen family routines, with a long-term goal of parents being able to parent without external supports.


Schedule:

  • Temporary Casual (minimum three shifts per month)

A Day in the Life

  • Build therapeutic relationships with parents that respect their autonomy and strengths.
  • Coach and mentor parents in daily caregiving, routines, and child development.
  • Support parents to provide safe, nurturing environments for their children.
  • Help parents recognize and respond to their children’s developmental stages and needs.
  • Teach parenting and life skills (meal planning, routines, budgeting, household management).
  • Model positive interactions and support parents to actively engage in parenting their children.
  • Use a company vehicle to transport and accompany families to appointments and community or cultural activities.
  • Implement therapeutic plan in collaboration with family
  • Complete documentation of activities, progress, and observations.
  • Assist parent with general household duties and maintaining a supportive home environment.

What You Bring To The Table

  • Direct experience working with families in home-based or community support settings.
  • Knowledge of family support, parent education, child development, and parent-child attachment.
  • Experience supporting individuals or families with complex needs.
  • Understanding and practice of trauma-informed, family-centered care.
  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Human Services, or related field (asset).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technology and documentation.

Compliance Regulated Requirements

  • An active Alberta Class 5 Driver's License
  • A clear Alberta 10-year Driver's Abstract (10 years driving experience is not required)
  • A current Standard/Intermediate First Aid with CPR Level C (Canadian Provider in person, or blended online/in-person)
  • $2 Million Alberta Auto Insurance Liability coverage
  • Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check obtained in last 5 months
  • Clear Intervention Record Check obtained from Children Services in last 5 months

Regulated Physical Requirement

To perform this role, the employee must be able to:

  • Walk and stand for extended periods, including long distances.
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, and maintain balance to prevent falls.
  • Work in varied environments, including outdoor and seasonal conditions.
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 10 lbs. occasionally; reach overhead and outward.
  • Perform fine motor tasks (typing, grasping, holding) and repetitive movements.
  • Communicate verbally and maintain physical stamina for both short and long durations.
