  • Correctional Center WIFI

Scope

  • A network analyst is required to support several JSG projects that are currently underway.
  • This project is to upgrade, or add Video Visitation equipment and set up Wi-Fi at the Correctional Centers in Alberta.
  • The resource will be travelling to different facilities/locations throughout the Province doing the following:

Documentation/Visio drawings

  • Configuring, installing, and connecting Wireless Access Points (WAPs)
  • Configuring and testing of Wireless LAN controllers and WAPs
  • Configuring and installing Cisco switches
  • Assisting with any backend configuration, cabling, on the Core network at Neil Crawford Centre
  • Setup, configure, test of Cisco firewalls and client connectivity
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, testing of SD-WAN services

The candidate will be responsible for implementing, modernizing, managing and supporting our network infrastructure, along with proactive monitoring, analysis and reporting.

  • Achieve a high availability IT network infrastructure and IT network services, in accordance with the government of Alberta, Technology Services, Service Level Agreements.
  • Hands-on implementation, upgrading, trouble-shooting of network software and hardware infrastructure.
  • Manage and prioritize workload. Check and balance the workload against the team requirements, to result in a service delivery model characterized by cross-training, workload sharing and collaborative team effort.
  • Effective teamwork and proficient communication with team members and supported ministries.
  • Lead and/or participate in networking projects, and plan, design, implement, support and document best practices.
  • Participate and contribute to cross-function IT projects by providing technical IT networking know-how and expertise.
  • Perform problem diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Plan for software and hardware upgrades and/or migrations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation.
  • Develop network related procedures.
  • Provide cross training and knowledge transfer to team members.

Duties

  • The resource will be travelling to different facilities/locations throughout the Province doing the following:

Note

  • This resource will primarily work remotely; however, the resource may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in office on reasonable notice from the Province. At the time of providing such notice, the Province will advise of the expected duration of any such meetings or work sessions. However, time to travel and any associated expenses to and from Edmonton and/or travel within Alberta will be at no cost to the Province.

Working Hours

  • Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday excluding holidays observed by the province
  • Due to project or operational needs, the contractor may be required to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, or designated block/change windows. The Province will provide advance notice to inform the contractor when such work is required.
  • Work must be done from within Alberta, due to network and data security issues.
  • It is anticipated the role will be remote, however in the event of an onsite meeting, the GoA does not pay for travel to attend on-site meetings, nor any expenses related to relocation, commuting, housing/accommodation, food/drink.
