As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and taking initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists, Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for diagnosis and monitoring of disease and pathology.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, review medical histories, explain procedures, obtain diagnostic-quality images, and take initial actions on abnormal findings.
  • Assist Radiologists, Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures as required.
  • Uphold a high standard of patient care and safety.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications: Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Additional Required Qualifications: Registered with Canadian Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (CSDMS), the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP). Successful candidate must have excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to stand for long periods, push/pull stretchers with patients and equipment, and lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Good decision-making skills, initiative, cooperative and flexible attitude. Empathy in dealing with patients and families. Ability to work independently or with others. Strong verbal and written skills. Working knowledge of computer applications and familiarity with Connect Care is an asset.
