Overview

This role will provide professional mental health services, specifically drop-in counselling hours and groups, that support student wellness and academic success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual single-session drop-in counselling
  • Develop and implement group sessions focused on common presenting problems
  • Assess student needs (including risk assessments) in order to inform provision of care and/or referral
  • Provide mental health services within regulatory bodies scope of practice
  • Compliance to regulatory bodies code of conduct, college standards and practices and relevant legislation (PHIPA, Regulated Health Professions Act, , Health Promotion and Protection Act)
  • Practice within an interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, health promoters)
  • Coordination of care with multiple service providers to ensure holistic approach
  • Provision of follow-up care as needed
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, clinical roundtables and supervision
  • Participate in quality assurance standards (file audits, case reviews)
  • Ensure timely documentation of all care provided
  • Remain current with respect to evidence informed practice

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work or related discipline and registered with a regulatory body
  • Extensive experience with individual counselling (especially single-session/solution focused/brief therapy and walk-in counselling).
  • Experience developing and facilitating group sessions (psycho-educational and therapeutic)
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation (i.e. Personal Health Information and Privacy Act, Family and Children’s Services Act, etc.)
