Job Overview
Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance and Operations, the Preventative Maintenance Lead Hand acts as a working leader for maintenance staff responsible for planning, scheduling and completion of the school board’s preventative maintenance program. The Lead Hand ensures the district’s buildings, facilities and equipment are safe, well maintained and operating efficiently to support a positive learning environment. This role involves a mix of administrative tasks, service work, building systems operation and support for drafting of building floor plans and system documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign, schedule and prioritize work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Provide guidance, training and support to custodial and maintenance staff on routine maintenance tasks and proper procedures to service mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Liaise with Operations and Maintenance Supervisors to develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all board facilities, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, work orders, equipment and asset inventory within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Analyze data to identify trends and recommend improvements to the preventative maintenance program to supervisors.
- Operate and make recommendations to enhance the building automation system (BAS) to ensure equipment operating time schedules for all schools are efficient and match building occupancy periods.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and technical manuals and other information to stay current with design, maintenance and operation of building mechanical and electrical systems.
Qualifications
- Minimum post-secondary education completion of a two (2) year diploma in Facility and Property Management, Building Systems Technician, Construction/Mechanical/Civil Engineering Technician, Architectural Technician or other related program of study.
- Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience.
- Broad knowledge of maintenance principles, practices and procedures.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for common mechanical, electrical and structural issues.
- Demonstrated experience working with testing equipment, power tools and various instruments.
- Evidence of excellent communication skills, both written and oral, for interacting with staff, school administrators and team members.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate work and mentor non-trades staff.
- Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Background check.
