General Summary of Position
The Motorhand position is deemed to be a "Safety Sensitive" position due to the proximity of heavy industrial machinery. A Motorhand provides manual labor as required to operate and maintain the rig's diesel and electric engines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Regularly maintain drilling rig engines, transmissions, heating systems, diesel-electric generators and motors, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment.
- Monitor inventories for fuel, oil filters, lube oils, greases and other service items.
- Maintain equipment logs and preventative maintenance records as required.
- Operate and maintain the engines that run the draw works, turn rotary table and circulate drilling fluid.
- Ensure usage of proper safety equipment.
- Ability to follow directions, comply with company guidelines and work safely.

- Strong Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.

Experience
- Previous hands-on experience in all positions up to and including Motorhand.
Certifications and Licenses
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid H2S Alive Certification.
- Valid CSO Certification.
- Confined space entry and rescue certification.
- Fall Protection and Rig Rescue for rig work.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to and from site.

Safety and Physical Demands
Working on a drilling rig comes with many physical demands and a commitment to a safe work environment. A rig worker is exposed to all weather conditions, long hours and rigorous physical demands. Horizon Drilling is committed to ensuring rig workers meet these physical demands by having each employee complete a substance screening and strength and mobility test before them being hired. Rig workers should be able to successfully lift 50 lbs., work 12 hours shift in extreme weather conditions and can work in a team environment.
