The District Municipality of Muskoka is currently recruiting for an EarlyON Educator.

The Opportunity

The EarlyON Educator is responsible for design and delivery of accessible, inclusive learning environments for families with children from 0 to 6 years of age that will enhance growth and development through play-based learning opportunities, modelling positive child-child and parent-child interactions.

What you will do

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate programming that focuses on provincial pedagogical framework.
  • Work with Program Co-ordinator and Manager to create interactive play-based learning environments and ensure compliance with the Quality Improvement program.
  • Observe and document interactions—developmentally, interpersonally, physically, and develop program plans to support healthy child development and well-being and identifying need for early intervention.
  • Engage in case conferences internally and with external partners to coordinate supports as required.
  • Promote the importance of the early years in providing better long-term outcomes for children, families, and the community.
  • Develop and facilitate programming for community events to spread awareness about EarlyON Child and Family Centre programs.
  • Represent EarlyON within the community, focusing on connecting participants with outside organizations that will be beneficial for their wellness (mental, physical, emotional).
  • Provide sector navigation for families to access services and supports.
  • Develop and prepare program materials, activities, and meals, including helping to develop meal plans.
  • Create program plans, goals and evaluate program delivery, effectiveness, and viability and address gaps as needed.
  • Collect participant registration and feedback. Ensure curriculum and environments are led by emergent interests of the program participants and responsive and inclusive to a diverse participant group.
  • Foster a safe and welcoming environment for children and families.
  • Model positive adult/child relationships and interactions.
  • Compile pedagogical documentation to value, discuss and make learning visible for families and caregivers.
  • Maintain catalogue of community resources and assist families in making connections to appropriate community services for their needs.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in team meetings and staff professional development.
  • Clean, launder and maintain toys, linens, and equipment in line with established procedures.

What you will need

  • Graduation from a two-year college program in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent, and be a registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Two years’ experience working with children and families in an early learning setting.
  • Relevant knowledge and application of early childhood assessment, development, pedagogy, and local resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children, families, the public, and community partners.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C is required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate is an asset.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Muskoka region for work-related purposes.
