JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Clerk works under the guidance of the Pharmacy Team. Pharmacy clerks perform basic administrative and organizational tasks in a pharmaceutical setting. They create and maintain patient files.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the pharmacist in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps).
- Answer telephones, forward calls, take messages, and assist customers.
- Work directly with patient data and complete tasks such as maintaining patient profiles and preparing claim forms.
- Schedule medication refills and ensure all required documentation and billing information has been obtained prior to delivery.
- Stage medication refills to assist the Pharmacy team.
- Assist pharmacists with reviewing End Rentals received from Home Care to facilitate equipment pickup and scheduling.
- Follow up on pending clarifications the pharmacy team is awaiting.
- Identify non-reconciled orders that require follow-up to ensure all documentation is received from Home Care.
- Assist the pharmacist in maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
- Perform physical inventories according to P&Ps.
- Maintain pharmacy records, including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records.
- Communicate appropriately with all members of the healthcare team.
- Document all activities using required paperwork (logs) in accordance with P&Ps.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent, and relevant post secondary education desirable. Experience working in a fast paced, customer service-based environment that requires flexibility and the ability to understand the importance of urgency.
Language Skills
Ability to read, write and comprehend documentation relevant to the responsibility. Fluency in a second language is an asset. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply good judgment to rationalize conflicting demands and tight deadlines. Be willing to choose the best option when options are limited.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to organize workload for efficient use of time
- Ability to function independently
- Good telephone skills
- Familiarity with computers and applications essential
