The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications for one tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor, beginning June 30, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a member of the Indigenous faculty team and be expected to balance rigorous research activity, service contributions, and undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching. The successful candidate will have a PhD related to Indigenous Studies or any combination of an Arts or Science doctoral degree that has a substantial Indigenous focus. A record of excellence in research and teaching or a demonstration of clear promise is required.

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated track record of (or possess the clear potential to excel in) research and teaching in any combination of the following areas: Indigenous histories, worldviews, social and/or physical sciences, determinants of health, governance and legal systems, cultural practices, language, arts, literature, entrepreneurship, and research. Successful applicants should be team-focused, working with and learning from multiple communities of interest, to strengthen the faculty and its developing program.

Candidates are required to state their Indigenous status in the application and proof of such is required as part of the hiring process.

The UPEI Faculty of IKERAS (Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies) emphasizes relational accountability and experiential learning in teaching Indigenous pedagogies and advancing Indigenous scholarship. Candidates who can contribute to that focus in support of our faculty values, with strong academic qualifications, traditional knowledge, leadership in reconciliation, and Indigenous land-based experience are encouraged to apply.
