Veron Jubilee Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Casual Patient Registration Clerk to join their team in Vernon B.C.!

This position works rotating days, evenings and nights: 23:00 to 07:00, 23:59 to 07:59, 06:00 to 14:00, 11:00 to 19:00, 15:00 to 23:00, 07:00 to 15:00, 09:00 to 14:00

What will you work on?

This position performs a variety of clerical duties related to receiving and registering of patients, identifying bed booking options, and cashier functions. Performs other related clerical duties.

  • Identifies available bed booking options by obtaining patient information such as personal details, nature of care required, type of surgery and comparing this information to available beds. Refers options to designated senior position for assignment of beds.
  • In accordance with established policies and procedures performs patient registration duties such as: interviewing patients/relatives to obtain personal information and proof of eligibility; explaining hospital policy on matters such as room deposits and room differentials; completing/printing registration forms using the computerized admission/discharge/transfer system; following up as necessary to verify patient eligibility for hospital programs coverage by sending enquiries to reference sources; and obtaining signatures on all release forms as required. Completes pre-admission documentation by telephoning patients to obtain personal information and eligibility information as required.
  • Checks daily admissions and registrations; identifies and corrects errors and omissions in accordance with established procedures. Reports problems to Manager (or designate)
  • In accordance with established policies and procedures performs cashier duties such as: receiving payments for a variety of patient bills and sundry accounts; recording payments in cash journals and/or summary sheets; and issuing change and receipts
  • Receives, checks and deposits patient valuables for safekeeping, returns valuables in accordance with facility policy, and maintains related records.
  • Performs related admitting clerical duties such as typing, compiling and distributing various documents/lists/schedules, completing data entry for pre-admissions, admissions, discharges, and transfers using appropriate software; reviewing patient lists and/or schedules to verify pre-admission requirements; maintaining filing systems in accordance with department standards, etc.
  • Records and enters data related to the operations of the morgue. Informs Manager (or designate) or Nurse Manger of any unusual circumstances/situations.
  • Receives patients/visitors, provides information and directs to appropriate areas. Answers general inquiries in person and by telephone such as patient room numbers and visiting hours.
  • Processes requests for patient telephone system, setting up phone and payment plan. Provides basic support to hospital staff with regard to phone and/or pager problems; refers problems to supplier and/or Manager (or designate) as required.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities by performing duties such as providing input/feedback to the Manager (or designate) on work procedures and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Assists with orienting new staff by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures and demonstrating use of equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
