\n\nPosition Summary
\nThe position is responsible for the coordination, supervision and direction of the curriculum and instruction within their departments and programs; for establishing liaison between the latter and other College departments and programs, as well as external organizations, institutions and businesses. In addition they are responsible for participating on college and provincial committees. This position is a faculty position and is therefore covered by the Collective Agreement between the College and the Vancouver Community College Faculty Association. The position shall be evaluated during the incumbent’s probationary year and the incumbent shall have a Performance Appraisal conducted thereafter in accordance with procedures set under the Collective Agreement. In order that the administration of the department will be covered during the year, the position will ensure that someone will act in their capacity during any absence. The specific responsibilities listed below are not intended to be a complete and definitive listing. The incumbent is expected to use their discretion and initiative to deal with situations as they arise and to assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Additionally, some of the duties may be delegated to individuals within the department.
\n\nDuties & Responsibilities
\nA. PROGRAM CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
\n- \n
- Be responsible for and ensure the program: \n
- maintains an appropriate quality of instruction; \n
- achieves the objectives of each course and covers the planned curriculum of each course; \n
- ensures that the department uses appropriate methods of assessment; \n
- participates in the evaluation of the faculty and support staff (as per the Collective Agreement); \n
- develops Program Content Guides; \n
- approves (and in some instances develops) Course Outlines. \n
- Assumes responsibility for the supervision of faculty and support staff during all shifts and locations of instruction in the program. \n
- Anticipate changes in faculty complement within the program and advise the Dean/Director. \n
- Provide an auxiliary instructor if, and when, necessary. \n
- Serve on recommendation committees which assist in the appointment of faculty and support staff. \n
- Establish department duty and vacation schedules in cooperation with faculty members. \n
- Participate in meetings. \n

B. FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENT RELATIONS
\n- \n
- Maintain liaison with other Coordinators II to discuss and interpret points of view, problems and practices. \n
- Convene meetings of faculty members within the program on a regular basis. \n
- Keep members of the program informed about College developments. \n
- Establish committees and delegate duties and responsibilities to committees within the program as necessary. \n
- Coordinate and equitably delegate appropriate administrative duties and responsibilities to Assistant Department Heads, Coordinators I, faculty and support staff. \n
- Advise students of available resources (Counselling, Admissions, Student Loans, etc.) and act in liaison with them. \n
- Assist in resolving internal program conflicts. \n
- Call on the resources of the College, if necessary, to guide and assist new faculty members with instructional skills. \n
- Orient new instructors and support staff to the program. \n
C. PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

- Maintain liaison with educational institutions, industry, commerce and government. \n
- Assist in staff and professional development. \n
- Aid in placing graduates in employment. \n
- Assist in the provision and maintenance of adequate facilities and equipment for instruction. \n
- Advise and assist in program budgeting and planning. \n
- Guide the development of course and curriculum materials. \n
- Assist in the development of instructor and student recruitment advertisements. \n
- Participate in ongoing program review. \n
D. ADMINISTRATION
\n- \n
- If requested, carry out the other duties and responsibilities. \n
- Recommend any desired changes in courses and/or programs to the Dean/Director. \n
- Ensure appropriate representation at standing provincial articulation and Program Advisory Committee meetings. \n
- Prepare, submit, and monitor the program’s budget. \n
- Authorize expenditure of budgeted funding by signing requisitions. \n
- Evaluate term and probationary faculty and support staff. Oversee the Performance Appraisal of faculty/support staff as required. \n
Area Hiring Criteria
\n- \n
- Red Seal Certification or willingness to complete within five (5) years of being hired OR Certificate or Diploma from a recognized institution in the field. \n
- At least eight years recent experience in industry. \n
- BC Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, equivalent, or willingness to complete within five (5) years of being hired. \n
- Ability to effectively relate to a diverse adult student body and possess excellent communication skills in the English language (oral and written). \n
- Previous teaching, mentoring or supervisory experience with adult learners. \n
- Possess a high degree of professionalism and ability to instruct in all levels of training in their field. \n
- Maintain a high degree of proficiency by keeping up with present day standards in the profession. \n
Salary Range
\nSalary Range - Prorated based on FTE
$53.45 - $85.65/hour. Starting salary will be determined by education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the VCCFA Collective Agreement.
