This position works in a high pressure environment with critical and competing demands, and provides coordination of patient care teams. Work priorities can change constantly in response to patient care needs, staffing concerns and YHC’s changing priorities. This position has a number of challenging emotional demands such as dealing with hostile clients. In addition there are also physical demands which include participating in a Code White if necessary. In order to deliver care the incumbent spends the majority of their time on their feet monitoring and coordinating patient care activities across patient units.

  • Knowledge and skills in Leadership
  • Knowledge and skills in the areas of Mental Health and Addictions;
  • Knowledge of standards of care and scope for practice of health care professionals
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in the Indigenous health field;
  • Knowledge of clinical education principles;
  • Knowledge of the historical and contemporary issues facing First Nations.
  • Knowledge of program planning, evaluation and quality improvement processes
  • Knowledge of management methods and techniques.
  • Advocacy and assertiveness skills;
  • Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational and presentation skills
  • Ability to teach patient care practices and other relevant skills;
  • Ability to effectively engage other professionals on an inter-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work with patients, families and communities with diverse backgrounds and circumstances demonstrating cross-cultural awareness

The successful candidate is required to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and be registered, or eligible for registration, in good standing with a recognized Social Work College. Consideration may be given to applicants possessing higher education in a related field such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Counselling. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of clinical leadership experience in a hospital setting, including at least two (2) years of experience working with Mental Health or Addictions clients. Preference will be given to candidates holding a Master’s Degree in Social Work. An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered.
