The Strategic Product Category Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of sourcing strategies across assigned product categories. This role is critical to optimizing supplier relationships, driving cost efficiencies, and supporting cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable value to the organization. Key Responsibilities
Category Ownership
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for assigned product categories.
- Monitor category performance, market trends, and competitive landscape.
- Lead category-level spend analysis and cost optimization initiatives.
- Manage supplier relationships, including onboarding, performance reviews, and contract compliance.
- Conduct supplier negotiations and ensure alignment with cost, quality, and delivery expectations.
- Identify and qualify new suppliers to support innovation and business growth.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (Demand Planning & Inventory, Procurement, Distribution, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Pricing, etc.) to align sourcing strategies with business objectives.
- Lead cross-functional category initiatives and ensure timely execution of sourcing projects.
- Communicate category plans, risks, and opportunities to leadership and relevant teams.
- Identify opportunities for new product introductions and category innovation and expansion.
- Support operational efficiency through process improvements and strategic supplier partnerships.
- Track and report on savings, cost avoidance, and value creation initiatives.
- Assess and mitigate supply chain risks including geopolitical, regulatory, and supplier-related factors.
- Develop contingency plans and maintain supplier diversification strategies.
- Lead or support contract negotiations and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Manage contract lifecycle, renewals, and documentation in coordination with Legal and Procurement.
- Leverage data analytics tools (e.g., ERP, Power BI) to drive insights on spend, supplier performance, and market dynamics.
- Use data to support decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Align category strategies with corporate sustainability and ESG goals.
- Evaluate suppliers based on environmental, social, and governance criteria where applicable.
- Collaborate with Finance and Demand Planning to support budgeting and forecasting for category spend.
- Monitor actuals vs. forecast and adjust strategies as needed.
- May lead cross-functional teams or mentor junior associates.
- Influence stakeholders to adopt strategic sourcing practices and category plans.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field; professional Supply Chain certification (e.g., SCMP, CPSM, CSCP) is an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, category management, or procurement.
- Experience in the HVAC industry is a strong asset.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in cost modeling, market analysis, and supplier evaluation.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in procurement systems and analytics tools (e.g., ERP, Power BI).
- Knowledge of contract law, risk management, and sustainability practices is preferred.
