General Purpose Of This Position

Reporting to the Manager of Estimating, the Mining Estimator applies methodologies, in order to schedule duration and task dependencies for the scope of work required in the preparation of cost estimates and proposal submissions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Work in compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report them to the Health and Safety Department.
  • Participate in the office safety program.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyse drawings, designs, specifications, and tender documentation to prepare schedules, cost estimates and bid documents for underground mine development, construction, and shaft sinking projects.
  • Schedule critical path activities for project.
  • Modify schedules and work plans to suit project managers' review.
  • Apply labour, equipment, and material requirements to each estimate.
  • Solicit quotations from vendors and subcontractors. Consult with vendors and specialists to discuss and formulate estimates.
  • Determine performance capabilities with detailed cycle time calculations. Adjust theoretical calculations to reflect historical performance achieved.
  • Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain their contributions to the cost estimates.
  • File and store supplier/manufacturer information in a centralized cost estimating database. Conduct time studies at project sites and correlate data transfer.
  • Utilize the company-wide estimate software to compile estimates and resource allocation.
  • Utilize spreadsheet, word processing, scheduling, and presentation software.
  • Prepare all tenders in accordance with the "Bidding Process".
  • Assist the Proposal Coordinator in meeting the deliverable requirements of all tender submissions.
  • Prepare back-up estimates and store originals and copies as per procedure.
  • Where time permits, assist and support project management to ensure continuity between tender, construction, and project completion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary

  • Will be commensurate with education and experience.

Travel Requirements

  • Possible travel for site visits/inspections, work in branch, or joint venture partner offices.

Education & Experience

  • Degree from a recognized university or diploma from college program relevant to areas of responsibility.
  • 1 - 10 years mining industry experience.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Able to work in a position of trust, in a highly confidential area of the contracting business.
  • Able to meet strict deadlines, work under pressure and have strong analytical skills.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors and internally with the engineering, finance, and operations groups.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal mining acts and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Project.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Primavera is considered an asset.
  • Experience using InEight/Hard Dollar or other estimating software.

Cementation Americas has successfully implemented a hybrid work schedule in all our Corporate Offices. All office staff have the option of remote work Mondays and Fridays, while working the balance of the week (Tues/Wed/Thurs) in the office.
