Position

Reporting to the Early Years Team Lead and indirectly to the Director of Programs, the Perinatal Coordinator is responsible for implementing a culturally appropriate pre- and post-natal program that supports urban Indigenous families. This role works collaboratively with clinic primary care providers and participates in prenatal and well-child clinics to ensure comprehensive, family-centered care that reflects Indigenous traditions, values, and community needs.


Responsibilities

  • Meeting and greeting clients in clinic and assess needs;
  • Implementing culturally-appropriate child development programming for urban Indigenous parents/caregivers and their children (ages 0-6), including but not limited to: weekly pre and post-natal program, weekly traditional parenting program, nutritional support, advocacy and referrals;
  • Providing cultural drop-in sessions for parents/caregivers and their children to teach them traditional crafts, stories and teachings to share with their children;
  • Collaborating with Early Years and other Wabano departments to help run a weekly program (e.g. community kitchen, diabetes);
  • Providing support, advocacy and referrals to new and expecting parents;
  • Coordinating activities of the multi-disciplinary program team including healthcare professionals, Elders, external partners and volunteers;
  • Planning, organizing and implementing community education sessions for parents and caregivers;
  • Working collaboratively with all staff to create and support Wabano events such as the Annual General Meeting, Gala, and community celebrations;
  • Ensuring program objectives are met in a manner consistent with the quality of service and care for which Wabano is well known.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary completion in a Health care program, Early Childhood Education, or other relevant program of study;
  • Four years of experience working with Indigenous families;
  • Knowledge of social, economic, and health issues relevant to the urban Indigenous community;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Evidence of excellent organizational skills and ability to write clear and effective reports;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Salary

$60,000-$62,000 per year + Benefits
