Overview
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Safety Advisor based out of Sherwood Park, Alberta.
This role will be based out of the Sherwood Park office but will require field travel throughout Central and Northern Alberta, typically spending most of the week on site supporting operations. The ideal candidate will also be available for emergency on-call response when required.
This role requires experience working with vacuum trucks, water trucks, combo-vacs, semi-vacs, and high-pressure cleaning operations, ensuring safe practices and compliance in specialized industrial environments.
Candidate Qualifications
This position will be based out of Sherwood Park, Alberta, with frequent travel throughout Northern and Central Alberta. Candidates should expect to spend the majority of their workweek in the field.

Candidate Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a safety-related field
- Strong knowledge of OH&S legislation and regulations
- Minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation required; post-secondary education in an OHS-related field is considered an asset
- Experience working with vacuum trucks, water trucks, combo-vacs, semi-vacs, and high-pressure cleaning operations is required
- Must be based out of Sherwood Park and willing to travel extensively throughout Northern and Central Alberta (majority of workweek spent in the field)
- Must be available for emergency on-call response and able to work flexible hours when operational needs arise
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong time management skills to balance field presence with administrative duties
- Demonstrated customer service mindset and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Proven administrative experience, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to mentor and lead team members within their area of responsibility
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Conduct incident investigations and recommend corrective or preventative measures
- Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with OH&S legislation and the Vertex Safety Management System
- Provide consistent on-site presence to observe, coach, and support crews in safe work practices
- Prepare WCB claims information and assist with injury management documentation
- Collaborate with the safety team, managers, and site supervision to clearly communicate safety requirements by job classification and location
- Attend and participate in client meetings, inspections, and audits
- Promote a culture where health, safety, and environmental protection are core values among staff, contractors, and clients
- Provide timely guidance and support to all departments on safety matters and facilitate training as required
- Lead, direct, and support safety initiatives aligned with the Vertex Safety Management System
- Identify high-risk areas within operations and develop programs to reduce or eliminate these risks
- Maintain and communicate Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and ensure their effectiveness within assigned areas
- Support the development and rollout of new safety programs and procedures
- Ensure formal safety meetings are conducted in accordance with the Vertex Safety Management System
- Ensure employees and management understand and enforce PPE requirements
- Review and update safe work practices and procedures to ensure continued relevance
- Train and guide employees, supervisors, and managers to consistently apply safety practices and procedures
- Conduct equipment and worksite inspections as per manufacturer specifications and Vertex guidelines
- Ensure all work locations comply with the company’s Alcohol & Drug Policy
- Assist with external audits (e.g., COR, client) and conduct internal corporate compliance audits as required
- Participate in and present safety training at operations meetings when necessary
- Be available for after-hours and emergency on-call support as required
