e-Zinc is searching for an experienced and talented Sr. Electrical Engineer to work within the Technology and Product Engineering department on the design, development, and assembly of battery pack and BESS products. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and assembly of electrically safe and robust electrical architectures and power conversion systems up to engineering release of our proprietary zinc-based cells, battery packs, and BESS products. This role offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of clean energy within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is a temporary/ contract role for 6 months with the option to extend into a permanent role as per business needs.
Position Scope and Responsibilities
- Design of electrical architectures for battery pack and BESS products, including specification, selection, and integration of components for power conversion, power distribution, safety, monitoring, and connection to external systems.
- Delivery of electrical systems that achieve functional requirements, safety certification, high volume manufacturing readiness, cost targets, and regulatory requirements.
- Create detailed electrical and power schematics, wiring and harness diagrams, and BOMs using CAD and ECAD tools.
- Define and execute test plans for performance and safety verification of BESS engineering samples, including energy storage performance, power flow validation, compliance with standards (i.e. LV / HV isolation, insulation resistance, electrical noise, and EMC).
- Support the design and integration of Battery Management Systems (BMS), control and switching components, and sensing and monitoring hardware.
- Lead and contribute to design reviews, DFMEA, root cause analysis, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
- Drive the development of electrical test fixtures, jigs, and assembly processes to support pack and BESS validation and engineering sample assembly.
- Provide technical support for prototype builds, manufacturing transfer, and vendor qualification.
Key Deliverables
In the first 6 months to a year, this role will be a fundamental contributor to success through:
- Completing electrical design and assembly of our next generation of zinc-air cells, battery packs, and BESS unit engineering samples for field trials and commercial evaluation
- Driving ECM and electrical engineering best practices within Product Engineering
- Delivering electrical engineering design reviews and release of design documentation
- Releasing completed electrical designs packages for Engineering Release to Manufacturing
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical design and development for battery energy storage or industrial power systems.
- Experience designing power conversion (DC/DC) systems to regulate and manage battery-connected systems.
- Registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is an asset.
- Experience in component selection and integration including sensors, relays, and communication interfaces.
- Strong design, problem-solving and hands-on skills; experience in engineering, prototyping, and industrial production environments and field troubleshooting.
