GFL Environmental is looking for a Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team in Richmond, BC.

- Conduct onsite inspections to evaluate safe work practices.
- Perform internal audits of work practices and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
- Support external audit functions in assigned divisions.
- Maintain a culture of safety excellence throughout the assigned area.
- Assist in the investigation process and determining root causes and corrective actions with support from Regional EHS team.
- Review, classify and report on injuries, property damages, and environmental events.
- Maintain a working knowledge of safety theory, regulations, and Company policy.
- Review the record keeping process and branch compliance folders.
- Assist in generating monthly NSC and safety subject matter and annual themes.
- Support EHS team in ensuring conformance with all aspects of applicable regulations, laws and orders and al company policies and procedures and directives from leadership.
- Support Operations when an employee has an occupational injury, specifically.
- Follow notification via our incident notification process, reach out to supervisor/manager to provide guidance in steps to take with injured employee in conjunction with Corp. Disability Mgmt.
- Ensuring proper documentation is completed within the required time frame by employee and supervisor/manager.
- Support the Corp. Disability Mgmt. team and WCB developed plan to help return employees back to work on modified duties, managing the employee-facing return to work process.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
- Fluent in English and Punjabi will be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Self-motivated to manage workload.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation for BC
- Post- Secondary Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
- NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) or MSO (Manufacturing Safety Officer) designation.
