Our client is a top financial institution with significant North American holdings. They have operations across most major verticals, including institutional & corporate, wealth management, private client, commercial banking, treasury, and retail banking.

Introduction: Robertson is seeking a skilled Fund Accountant to join our client.

Contract Period: 12 months with potential to extend or convert

Pay Rate: Starting from $35 per hour

Location: Toronto, ON

Location Type: Hybrid: primarily remote but certain requirements on site; paper filings (during Tax season)


Business Hours: Monday to Friday; 8-5 (flexible due to certain regulatory guidelines)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Review the financial statements and ensure they are prepared in a timely and accurate basis and are compliant with the regulatory requirements.
  • Review the T3 Returns and ensure they are prepared and filed on a timely and accurate basis and are complaint with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
  • Review the T2 Returns and ensure they are prepared and filed on a timely and accurate basis and are complaint with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
  • Analyze in detail, the accounting and tax impact of complex corporate actions affecting the funds in a timely and accurate basis.
  • Calculate and analyze income and capital gains distributions for the Mutual Fund Trusts, Mutual Fund Corporations and Pooled Funds and ensure the calculations are compliant with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
  • Calculate and analyze tax factor calculations for each class or fund for T3 unitholder filings.

Experience & Qualification Requirements:

  • A rich and extensive comprehension of relevant Canadian legislation (i.e. the Canadian Income Tax Act) and Canadian regulatory requirements
  • Extensive investment fund accounting experience
  • 3-5 years experience in preparing, reviewing, analyzing financial statements and notes to the financial statements for investment funds
  • 3-5 years experience in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing investment fund distributions and tax returns for mutual fund trusts, unit trusts and mutual fund corporations
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), Canadian Income Tax and regulations as it applies to investment funds
  • Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and any other related accounting software
  • Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking
  • Certifications: Canadian institute courses would be asset
