We are the COSMIC Capacity Provisioning team, part of the platform that powers some of the largest-scale services in Microsoft, including Teams backend services and LLM APIs. This team ensures that customer workloads are placed reliably with sufficient quota and capacity, and that runtime scaling and provisioning succeed across dynamic and heterogeneous environments.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer II to help build COSMIC AURA —an AI-first orchestration platform that will redefine how Microsoft optimizes runtime capacity, workload placement, and operational efficiency for COSMIC. You will be part of a high-performing, cross-functional team building multi-tenant, high-throughput services with a solid focus on reliability and performance.

Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable services for provisioning, capacity validation, and autoscaling.
- Automate service movement across regions using real-time capacity signals.
- Develop quota management automation to minimize provisioning delays.
- Integrate with M365 Capacity systems to streamline capacity allocation process.
- Support reliability, observability, security, and compliance standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years experience solid proficiency in either C#, Go, Java, Python
- 2+years of professional software development experience, building scalable, highly available cloud or distributed systems.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+years of professional software development experience, building scalable, highly available cloud or distributed systems.
- Experience with C#, PowerShell, or Go.
- Familiarity with Azure cloud services and Kubernetes.
- Proven track record in designing and operating large-scale cloud systems.
- Ability to quickly ramp up on new technologies and domains.
