About The Role

As the Community Services Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in educating and informing the community about blood cancers while connecting individuals recently diagnosed to LLSC programs and resources. With a blend of remote and in-person engagement, you'll lead efforts to expand LLSC's reach, coordinate educational events, and collaborate with healthcare professionals.

Although this is a work from home position, it is constituent facing and a field-based role that is required to regularly attend and support in person meetings and events in the region up to 30% of the time. The position requires someone who is willing to engage actively in the community in and around Vancouver.

Providing Support To People Affected By Blood Cancers

  • Listens compassionately to people affected by blood cancer and their families
  • Demonstrates strong listening skills while maintaining appropriate boundaries, recognizing the distinction between being a supportive listener and a counselor.
  • Manages all inquiries on LLSC’s Community Services programs; providing tailored information, resources and referrals based on the individual’s needs.
  • Maintains expertise on LLSC programs, resources and services.
  • Maintains high level of knowledge on the provincial healthcare systems and regional external programs and services available for referral.
  • Manages all aspects of in-person educational events planning: logistics, speaker recruitment, moderator, promotion, reporting, etc.,
  • Collaborates on national Community Services initiatives and content development with speaker / volunteer recruitment, and as webcast hosts.
  • Collaborates with advocacy lead and participates in activities to support a constituent facing barriers to accessing services and treatments.
  • Manages constituent interactions and records in Raiser’s Edge.

Community Engagement And Development

  • Develops and implements a regional plan to advance the reach of Community Services and the LLSC, including a healthcare professional (HCP) strategy to engage HCP for referrals to LLSC.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key HCP in each cancer center and engage them for content expertise and speaking opportunities.
  • Coordinates and delivers presentations to HCP to promote LLSC programs, services and Continuing Medical Education program.
  • Promotes LLSC educational resources to HCP and cancer centers.

Organizational Duties

  • Serves as the LLSC lead for national portfolio area, consulting and providing updates to the CSLs team quarterly.
  • Performs all operational activities pertaining to community services (logistic, admin, reporting, budgeting, etc.)
  • Participates in onboarding and provides information and updates to the fundraising campaign team on Community Services activities, to assist the team with understanding the impact of our work for our constituents.
  • Delivers a strong quality of daily data entry and monitors metrics closely and readjusts plans to reach objectives.

What Will Make You Successful

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences or college diploma in social science with 3 years in a similar role
  • You have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the nonprofit health sector working directly with clients and 3 years in program development and evaluation
  • You are comfortable working from home, as well as traveling regularly to different regions of BC for in-person meetings, presentations, or community activities
  • You are skilled at delivering effective presentations and educational sessions, either virtually or in person, to diverse audiences.
  • You are experienced in leading and coordinating initiatives to achieve community engagement and program objectives.
  • You have a track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and community organizations.
  • You have knowledge of the oncology community and provincial healthcare systems.
