We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Resident Care Manager to lead our interdisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, person-centered care. This leadership role is ideal for a Registered Nurse with experience in palliative care and post-acute rehabilitation, and a strong commitment to clinical excellence and collaboration. At St. Michael’s Health Centre, you will report to the Site Administrator and oversee daily clinical operations, ensuring care is delivered safely, ethically, and effectively. You’ll mentor nursing and support staff, collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and families, and help develop individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs. This role supports residents and families through palliative and end-of-life care with empathy and professionalism, while facilitating transitions in post-acute rehabilitation and discharge planning. You’ll monitor quality indicators, support continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with standards and policies. You’ll also play a key role in coaching, motivating, and empowering staff, while fostering a culture of respect and teamwork. Description:

The Resident Care Manager (RCM) embodies the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization in every interaction with staff, patients, residents, and families. Central to this role is the commitment to resident-centered care, working collaboratively to identify individualized care goals, align resources effectively, and foster strong partnerships among residents, families, and the care team. In close collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Educator, and other site leadership, the RCM provides coaching, mentoring, and clinical support to staff, particularly around complex clinical decision-making. The RCM holds a direct supervisory responsibility for unionized staff within their unit(s) or departments, managing performance discussions and initiating disciplinary actions when necessary. The role is pivotal in supporting both unit-level and organizational change, encouraging open dialogue among staff, and addressing issues that impact unit operations. The RCM leads or actively participates in setting program performance expectations, defining unit-specific goals, and developing clinical standards. They ensure compliance with established clinical guidelines and organizational policies. The RCM also liaises regularly with other hospital units and departments to resolve operational challenges, promote teamwork, boost staff morale, and maintain open, transparent communication. Responsibilities include overseeing recruitment, managing staff abilities, addressing attendance concerns, conducting annual performance appraisals, and working professionally and collaboratively with union representatives. This position is non-unionized.

    Required Qualifications:

    Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or a related health discipline is required. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may also be considered. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Certification in Basic Life Support (Level 3) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience, including previous charge nurse or leadership responsibilities.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Two (2) years’ management or supervisory experience preferred. Experience in palliative care and post-acute rehabilitation. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-stress settings. Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities. Strong organizational and conflict resolution skills.
