About this position:
We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the evolution of Later's cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices. You'll be the technical owner of our Kubernetes, AWS, and GitOps stack—driving scale, security, and automation across our platform.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional role that sits at the heart of our product reliability and growth. You'll collaborate with engineering teams to build the tools, pipelines, and systems that power our products, enabling faster, safer, and more reliable releases. We take a market-based & data-driven approach to compensation. We leverage data from trusted third-party compensation sources to help us understand the market value of a role based on function, level, geographic location, and scope. We evaluate compensation bi-annually, including performance and market-related factors.
Our salaries are benchmarked against market Total Cash Compensation for the geographic location of our job posting. Compensation for some roles is structured as On Target Earnings (OTE = base + commission/variable) while for others it is structured as Salary only.
To comply with local legislation and ensure transparency, we share salary ranges on all job postings. Skills, experience and other factors help determine the final salary we offer which may vary from the original range posted.
Additionally, all permanent team members are eligible to participate in various benefits plans as part of their overall compensation package.
Salary Range:
$ 140,000 - 155,000 CAD

We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the evolution of Later's cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices. You'll be the technical owner of our Kubernetes, AWS, and GitOps stack—driving scale, security, and automation across our platform.

What you'll be doing:
Strategy
- Define and implement the long-term infrastructure roadmap aligned with engineering and product growth plans.
- Partner with engineering leaders to ensure scalability, reliability, and security are built into every layer of our platform.
- Evaluate emerging DevOps tools and practices to continuously improve system efficiency, observability, and developer experience.
- Kubernetes Ownership: Design, deploy, and manage production-grade EKS clusters. Develop reusable Helm charts and ensure consistent, secure, and scalable deployments.
- Infrastructure as Code: Build and maintain Terraform modules to manage AWS infrastructure with versioning, automation, and governance best practices.
- Cloud Architecture: Design and optimize AWS environments (VPCs, RDS, S3, EC2, Lambda, and networking) for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
- Observability & Reliability: Implement and maintain observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, CloudWatch), defining SLOs and proactive alerting for system health.
- Security & Compliance: Embed SOC 2 and ISO 27001 controls into CI/CD pipelines—managing IAM, encryption, image scanning, and audit logging.
Team / Collaboration
- Partner with product and engineering teams to streamline CI/CD workflows using GitOps and Argo CD.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering learning and adoption of DevOps best practices across teams.
- Collaborate with Security and IT teams to ensure compliance and data protection standards are embedded in infrastructure design.
- Share insights and documentation that enable broader team autonomy and faster delivery.
- Serve as a technical subject-matter expert for DevOps and infrastructure reliability within the engineering org.
- Champion a "build it right" culture that values ownership, automation, and security as shared responsibilities across teams.
- Lead infrastructure improvement initiatives, ensuring scalability as the organization grows.
- Stay ahead of cloud-native and DevOps trends, identifying tools or methods that drive measurable impact.
- Continuously evaluate infrastructure performance, cost, and efficiency—recommending improvements that align with business and engineering goals.
- Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and post-mortem processes to strengthen organizational learning.
- Kubernetes clusters and AWS infrastructure operate with high reliability, scalability, and observability.
- Deployment pipelines are fast, consistent, and automated—reducing manual overhead.
- Security and compliance requirements are seamlessly integrated into infrastructure and processes.
- Engineering teams can deploy, monitor, and recover systems independently with confidence.
- You are recognized internally as a trusted partner who drives operational excellence and helps elevate technical standards across the org.
- 5–8 years of hands-on DevOps or cloud engineering experience in production environments.
- Deep expertise with Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, and Argo CD.
- Strong experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure (IAM, EC2, RDS, S3, VPCs, and networking).
- Proven track record using Terraform for scalable, auditable Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with Datadog, Prometheus, or equivalent observability tools.
- Demonstrated success integrating SOC 2 / ISO 27001 controls in CI/CD pipelines.
