Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant / Director of Finance to lead and manage all financial operations. This role will be responsible for overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, cash flow management, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction or real estate finance, combined with proven leadership and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, billing, and intercompany transactions.
  • Manage daily cash flow, forecasting, collections, payroll, and payables.
  • Implement and oversee month-end and year-end accounting processes for accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review progress billings, WIP reports, and ensure proper revenue recognition and cost allocation.
  • Develop monthly financial reports and analysis for management and compliance purposes.
  • Supervise accounting staff and support hiring, training, and development within the finance team.
  • Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and year-end reporting.
  • Prepare and submit HST returns and ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations.
  • Conduct expense analysis and provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency.
  • Support financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting initiatives.
  • Oversee payroll processing and subcontractor payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, risk management, and accounting standards (IFRS/ASPE).
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and key stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

  • CPA designation (or in progress).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally in construction or real estate.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and ASPE.
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or equivalent).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal teams and leadership.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing or mentoring accounting professionals.
  • Knowledge of corporate tax, HST, and financial compliance best practices.
